This painting was commissioned by a friend and the reference material (which consisted of video footage from the 1980's) was kindly provided by Enda Hearn.

It was an usual way to approach the painting using this kind of reference material as normally I would go out and photograph and sketch the subject myself and use a combination of the two to produce the finished painting. I ended up setting up my laptop next to the easel and was bobbiing backward and forward between the two.
