This painting seemed to provoke a lot of interest. The painting is conjured up out of everyday elements that surround me and that reflect what Ireland is to me.

The tractor is based on my next door neighbour Tom Barry's tractor. He has this beautiful red Massey Ferguson 35 which to me looks very retro with it's rounded curves and 50's feel.

The donkeys, they are his also. I remember actually doing the painting days after trying to help out with his donkey. The mother had rejected her new born and we were trying to get the new born to take the mothers first milk. There we were 3 or 4 of us wrestling with the mother to try and keep her still while the new born tried to take her milk...unfortunately it didn't work out and the new born died a week or two later.

The road in the painting is typical of the back roads I take to get to Lahinch, lots of dry stone walls and cottages all looking down onto the sea.
